Bihar’s Piyush Raj qualifies for World U20 Championships with gold at Indian Open 400m meet
Bihar’s Piyush Raj secured qualification for World Athletics U20 Championships 2026 in the 400m event after he claimed gold in the U20 category at the Indian Open 400m meet in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
Piyush claimed the top spot by clocking a career-best timing of 47.11 secs, bettering the World U20 Championships entry standard of 47.4s.
Silver medallist Uttarakhand’s Sahil Malik also bettered the entry mark by registering a timing of 47.28s, while Kerala’s Edvin Mathew bagged bronze (47.65s).
The 2026 edition of the World U20 Championships will happen in Oregon from August 5 to 9.
