2026 Pro Swim Series: Olympic champion Summer McIntosh clinches gold in 200m butterfly
Olympic swim star Summer McIntosh clocked an impressive 2:4.72 for a dominant victory in the 200m butterfly on Thursday at the Westmont Pro Swim in suburban Chicago.
Canada’s McIntosh, the reigning Olympic and world champion, beat American Lindsay Looney by an emphatic 4.31 seconds.
“Honestly, I was hoping for a bit more than what I just went,” the 19-year-old who is now training in Texas with former Michael Phelps mentor Bob Bowman told streaming service Peacock.
The 19-year-old Canadian holds the second, third, fourth and fifth-fastest times in the event behind the world record of 2:01.81, set by China’s Liu Zige during the era of now-banned super suits.
In other events, Australian Sam Short won the 800m freestyle in 7:40.98, beating a pair of Olympic gold medallists.
American Bobby Finke, winner of the 800 freestyle at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the first time it was added to the men’s Games program, was second in 7:58.35.
Ireland’s Paris Games gold medallist Daniel Wiffen was third in 8:07.21.
