Asian Championship 2026: Arjun, Elavenil win 10m air rifle mixed team gold with World Record score


Arjun Babuta and Elavenil Valarivan added one more gold to India’s tally at the ongoing Asian Championship in New Delhi by winning the 10m air rifle mixed team event with a new World Record on Sunday.

Arjun and Elavenil emerged victorious in the final with a score of 505. Republic of Korea’s Kim Woorim and Kwon Eunji finished second with 501 while Japan’s Naoya Okada and Misaki Nobata took the final place on the podium with 437.9

The Indian pair had also topped the qualification round with 632.8. Compatriots Rudrankksh Patil and Meghana Sajjanar finished third with a score of 629 but could not progress further as only one pair per nation was allowed in the four-team final.

In the final, Arjun and Elavenil led from the get-go. In the first series, the Indians scored 105.1 to take a slender lead of 0.2 over Nobata and Okada. After the second series, that advantage increased to 2.4 with the home team on 211.

Arjun and Elavenil ended the first stage of the competition with a score of 315.8. The Koreans (312.7) jumped to second while Uzbekistan’s Javohir Sokhibov and Mukhtasar Tokhirova (311.8) overtook Japan (311.1) to take the third spot.

The Indian duo took its score to 379.4 after the first series of the elimination stage. While Korea (375.2) stayed second, Japan (374.3) recovered to knock out Uzbekistan (373.5).

Arjun and Elavenil continued to stay on top, leading Korea (439) by 3.1 while Japan (437.1) finished with a bronze after being eliminated at the end of the fifth series.

The home team did not show any signs of nervousness and sealed the gold with a four-point lead over the Koreans.

At the ongoing edition of the continental championships, India has won nine gold, four silver and three bronze medals in the senior events.
