Zagreb Ranking Series: Aman Sehrawat wins silver, Sujeet Kalkal takes gold on Day 1
India opened its account in style at the Zagreb Ranking Series, finishing Day 1 with one gold, one silver and one bronze in men’s freestyle wrestling. Paris Olympics bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat claimed silver in the 61kg category, cruising through his first two bouts with dominant technical wins, beating Giorgi Goniashvili (Georgia) 10-0 and Reza Momenijoujadeh (Iran) 12-2. In the third round, the Indian was halted by American Austin DeSanto, who won 0-8 via fall.
India’s lone gold came through Sujeet Kalkal, who won the men’s 65kg title, giving the squad a major early boost in the international ranking circuit.

In the 70kg category, Abhimanyu Mandwal secured bronze, pinning down strong results including a 10-0 quarterfinal win over Tyler Kasak (USA). He lost to Iran’s Sina Khalili 0-10 in the semifinal before bouncing back in the bronze medal match against Ian Parker (USA) 6-3.
Meanwhile, Mukul Dahiya narrowly missed out in the 86kg bronze medal match, losing 5-6 to Iran’s Ali Savadkouhi.
