Noida golfer Sukhman Singh wins IGU amateur golf event

Noida golfer Sukhman Singh rang in early Christmas celebrations by capturing the Amateur Golf Championship of India here Sunday.

Sukhman posted a dominant performance to defeat Harman Sachdeva of Haryana in the 36-hole final following an unassailable 7UP lead after 29 holes at the Tollygunge Club.

It is the world’s longest-running amateur matchplay championship organised by the Indian Golf Union (IGU).

With a hot putter and an impressive long game, Sukhman kept attacking the flags from the start of the final. He was all square till the sixth hole before going 4UP after 12 holes and remained 2UP after the first 18 holes.

Schaper wins back-to-back DP World Tour titles after playoff eagles

South African Jayden Schaper chipped in ‍for an eagle on the ​second playoff hole to ‌win the DP ​World Tour’s Mauritius Open on Sunday and continue his remarkable recent run of success.

Schaper (64) beat American Ryan Gerard (66) in the playoff after ​both players finished the ⁠tournament at 22-under-par in windy conditions at the Heritage La Reserve ​Golf Links.

Schaper, ⁠24, has now finished second-first-first in his last three tournaments on tour after ‌winning the Alfred Dunhill ‌Championship last week with an eagle on ‍the first extra hole.

He tied for second at the ‍Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City the weekend before that.

Shaurya finishes 2nd in Asian Tour Q-School; Rashid, Ajeetesh and Jaglan also earn cards

India’s 22-year-old rising star, Shaurya Bhattacharya, faltered at the finish, but still finished second at the Final Stage of the Asian Tour’s Qualifying School to secure his full playing rights for the Asian Tour 2026 season.

Bhattacharya, who looked to be on his way to a win, dropped three bogeys in the last seven holes and lost by one to Lin Yuxin, a two-time Asia-Pacific Amateur champion.

The 23-year-old left-hander Yuxin (67) totalled 16-under for five rounds, and Bhattacharya (72), who needed a par on the 18th to force a tie for the top place, bogeyed and ended second at 15-under.

It was a fine day for the Indians as three others from the country — Rashid Khan, Ajeetesh Sandhu and Shubham Jaglan — also earned the rights after finishing inside the top-35.

KOA felicitates Ayush Shetty, Prajwal Dev, Pranavi Urs among others in annual awards function

The Karnataka Olympics Association on Sunday felicitated notable sportspersons, including promising shuttler Ayush Shetty and seasoned tennis player SD Prajwal Dev, from the state as part of the annual KOA awards function.

The 20-year-old Shetty won the US Open Super 300 tournament in June, ending India’s title drought in BWF World Tour. He defeated Brian Yang of Canada 21-18, 21-13 in the men’s singles final.

Prajwal was a member of India’s Davis Cup squad in 2024.
