Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025: India thrashes Canada 14-3 to qualify for final
India men’s hockey team on Saturday defeated Canada 14-3 in its final round-robin fixture in Ipoh, Malaysia to secure a spot in the final of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025.
Defender Jugraj Singh was India’s leading scorer, firing four goals past Canada’s defence. He sounded the board thrice from the penalty corner and added a fourth with a penalty stroke. Abhishek, Amit Rohidas, and Rajinder Singh scored a brace each. Selvam Karthi, Nilakanta Sharma, Sanjay, and Dilpreet Singh ended with one goal apiece.
The result means India will finish in the top two in the points table, irrespective of other results later in the day. The Craig Fulton-coached side is likely to face Belgium in the final, a side which handed India its only loss in the round-robin stage.
Belgium is currently at 10 points, and faces New Zealand, which has seven points, later on Saturday. New Zealand has an outside chance to qualify for the final but needs to win by a margin of at least six goals.
