Newey to become Aston Martin team principal from 2026

Adrian Newey, regarded as one of the best engineers in Formula One history, will take on the role of Aston Martin’s team principal from the 2026 season, the motor racing team said on Wednesday.

Newey, a Briton, joined Aston Martin earlier this year as a shareholder and managing technical partner of the team, after leaving Red Bull Racing.

Andy Cowell and Newey have agreed to divide their responsibilities in order to focus on their individual strengths and expertise, ensuring organisational efficiency, a statement from Aston Martin said.

Cowell will take on a new role as Chief Strategy Officer, using his experience to help optimise the technical partnership between the Team, Honda, Aramco and Valvoline.

Newey will take on the role of Team Principal from 2026 and will be guiding the technical team, including the trackside operations of the car.
