Norris, Piastri disqualified from Las Vegas GP 2025; Verstappen gets major boost in title challenge

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were disqualified from the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix after both McLaren cars had failed to meet technical regulations during post-race inspections.

The rearmost skids on Car No. 4 and 81 were found to be less than the required thickness of 9 mm, breaching Article 3.5.9 (e) of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations for skidwear.

Norris, who finished second in Las Vegas, had scored 18 points compared to Piastri’s 12 from finishing fourth, leaving their points gap from the last race weekend unchanged at 24.

However, the disqualification makes the three-way championship fight that includes Max Verstappen significantly tight. Piastri and Verstappen are now level on 366 points each. Norris leads the standings with 390 points.

The Dutchman had won the Las Vegas GP for his sixth victory of the season, and eighth consecutive podium, to keep his championship hopes alive.

This also meant both Mercedes drivers, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, were promoted to P2 and P3, respectively.

Only two rounds remain, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, and a maximum of 58 points will be up for grabs.
