Chess World Cup, Round 5: Indians in action — Schedule, opponents, match order, streaming info
Arjun Erigaisi and Pentala Harikrishna were the only two Indians left in the ongoing Chess World Cup in Goa at the end of the fourth round on Thursday.
Arjun won both his rapid games against his much-experienced Hungarian opponent Peter Leko in the tie-breaks. Harikrishna may not have been as dominant against Nils Grandelius of Sweden, but he too booked his ticket to the fifth round after the first set of tie-breaks. After drawing the opening game, he won the second in 34 moves.
The World Cup offers three spots for the FIDE Candidates Tournament, set to happen in the first half of 2026.
