Servo Masters golf marks 25th edition, longest continuous event in the country

The upcoming Servo Masters golf in Digboi will be the 25th edition of the tournament, making it the longest continuous golfing event in the country and Indian Oil Corporation is keen on expanding its presence in the sport further.

The Servo Masters, to be held from November 16-21 at the Digboi Golf Links in Assam, began in 1999 and remains the only golfing event to be held at the same venue all these years. Affiliated to the PGTI since the latter’s inception in 2006, it will also be the highest prize money edition for the event. The course is one of the oldest in the country, established in 1916.

“Our association with and promotion of sports is well known. But for a long time, the Digboi course and event was our only connection to golf, also because it is the only course wholly owned by IOCL. But now we want to take it further, develop the sport more and who knows, maybe even produce Olympians,” IOCL chairman Arvindar Singh Sahney said here on Saturday.

“We recently were the title sponsors for two other PGTI events – the Bengaluru Open and the Chennai Open – as part of the same,” he added.

Former India captain Kapil Dev has promised to grace the tournament. He spoke of the tournament’s history and the process of promoting caddies to take up golf professionally.

“We have a good number of caddies who have carved a career for themselves by excelling on the golf course. It is part of IndianOil’s initiative to contribute to the culture of grooming sportspersons,” Sahney added.

“The 25th IndianOil SERVO Masters Golf is a profound milestone that goes beyond a sporting contest; it is a powerful celebration of the enduring legacy shared between IndianOil and the historic Digboi Golf Links—at the very ‘Gangotri of the Indian Hydrocarbon sector.’ As the longest-running event on the PGTI circuit, this Silver Jubilee edition reaffirms IndianOil’s deep, decades-long commitment to the North-East and our nation-first philosophy, ‘ Pehle Indian, Phir Oil. This guiding principle ensures our seamless energy support while actively powering national progress and sporting excellence,” he further said.

The Servo Masters will have a 132-player field from nine countries including defending champion Jamal Hossain of Bangladesh.

The Dehing forest reserve borders the 18-hole golf course, which is spread over 6329 yards
