Manush Shah-Diya Chitale become first Indian pair to qualify for WTT Finals.
In a historic first for India, Manush Shah and Diya Chitale have qualified for the WTT Finals.
As per the latest WTT Series Finals Race rankings on Tuesday, the Shah–Chitale pair became the fifth mixed doubles team to confirm a spot at the year-end event, which will take place in Hong Kong, China, from December 10 to 14.
The ‘WTT Series Finals Race’ rankings at the end of the WTT Star Contender Muscat (November 17–22) will determine the seven pairs who automatically qualify for the WTT Finals. The eighth spot will be taken by a host wildcard pair.
This season, Shah and Chitale have won a WTT Contender title in Tunis and also finished runners-up at the WTT Star Contender event in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. The Indian pair is ranked eighth in the latest ITTF rankings.
WTT Finals was first held in 2021. Like the first four editions, this year’s event will also feature the top 16 men and women competing in the singles categories. However, the men’s and women’s doubles categories, part of the 2023 and 2024 editions, will be replaced by mixed doubles in Hong Kong.
