Olympian Deepak Kumar named chief league commissioner of School Shooting Premier League
Olympian Deepak Kumar on Wednesday was named the Chief League Commissioner of the School Shooting Premier League (SSPL) , India’s first structured school-level shooting league.
“Shooting gave me purpose and opportunities I will always be grateful for. I firmly believe that talent exists in every part of India — we need structured pathways that give young shooters access, coaching and exposure. The School Shooting Premier League is uniquely placed to do that within the school ecosystem. I look forward to working with schools, coaches, parents and stakeholders to make shooting an aspirational and accessible sport for our young athletes,” Deepak said.
Deepak won the silver medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event during the 2018 Asian Games, apart from representing the country during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
SSPL was launched with the vision of taking shooting deeper into schools and creating a sustainable pipeline of young talent. The inaugural season of SSPL is set to roll out with zonal qualifiers across multiple states, culminating in a national championship.

Dahiya best-placed Indian at tied 28th after round 1 of World Amateur Team Championship
Rakshit Dahiya carded an even-par 72 in testing conditions to finish as the best-placed Indian at tied 28th in the opening round of the World Amateur Team Championship (WATC) for the Eisenhower Trophy in Singapore on Wednesday.
The Delhi NCR Cup 2025 winner was seven strokes behind leader Hiroshi Hirahara Tai of Singapore at the Tanah Merah Country Club.
Team India ended the opening day in tied 18th position among 36 nations in the overall standings.
“I could have finished higher but nevertheless it is a decent start. The conditions were tough to say the least. But I managed to keep it at even-par. Tomorrow, I will focus more on avoiding as many mistakes as possible and keeping the ball on the right spot in the fairway,” Dahiya said.
Another Indian, Deepak Yadav registered a modest card of one-over 73 to end in joint 35th position. Arin Ahuja also had a topsy-turvy round with two birdies and five bogeys that derailed his campaign. He was placed tied 67th with overall score of 3-over 75.
