World Para Athletics Championships 2025: Nishad wins high jump T47 gold with new Asian Record, Simran crowned 100m T12 champion

Nishad Kumar set a new Asian Record as he won his maiden gold medal at the World Para Athletics Championships in men’s high jump T47 in New Delhi on Friday.

Nishad cleared the bar set at 2.14m in his first attempt, bettering his own mark of 2.09m set at the previous edition in Paris in 2023.

Nishad had three failed clearances at 2.18m as he tried to break USA’s Roderick Townsend World Record of 2.16m.

Townsend, the favourite for the gold, could only manage a clearance of 2.03m to take the bronze. Turkiye’s Abdullah Ilgaz finished second with a new European Record of 2.08m.

Simran grabbed a historic gold medal in women’s 100m T12 with a new Personal Best of 11.95s.

Preeti Pal bagged a bronze in women’s 200m T35, clocking a Season’s Best timing of 30.03s. Iraq’s Fatima Suwaed (30.00s) took silver while China’s Guo Qianqian (29.50s) clinched gold.

Pardeep Kumar also clinched a bronze in men’s discus throw F64 with a Season’s Best of 46.23m.

India has won 15 medals – six gold, five silver, and four bronze – at the ongoing edition of the World Championships.
