61st Rubinstein Memorial: Aravindh held by leader Yakubboev in fourth round, placed joint-third
Indian GM Aravindh Chithambaram was placed joint-third after four rounds as he played a third straight draw in the 61st Rubinstein Memorial chess tournament, taking place at the Spa Theater in Polanica-Zdroj, Poland, on Tuesday.
Top seed Aravindh, playing with black pieces, was held by Uzbek GM Nodirbek Yakubboev.
Radoslaw Wojtaszek, one of the four Polish GMs in the 10-player field, joined Yakubboev at the top with a victory over England’s Michael Adams while Germany’s Matthias Bluebaum equalled India No. 5 Aravindh’s tally after beating Pawel Teclaf, another local hope.
In the fifth round, Aravindh, who has a FIDE rating of 2723, faces last-placed Jan Klimkowski.
The event is a traditional annual tournament honouring Akiba Rubinstein, one of the most influential Polish players in history.
It has a round-robin format. The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 more minutes for the rest of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one.
