Macau Open 2025: Satwik-Chirag through to next round; Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand bow out in Round of 32


Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty cruised into the second round of the Macau Open 2025 with a straight games victory over Malaysia’s Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong.

The duo, who recently moved back into the top 10 of the world rankings, raced past the Malaysian duo 21-13 21-15 in just 36 minutes.

Satwik and Chirag made a dominant start, racing to a 6-1 lead. Though the Malaysians reduced the margin to 10-9, the Indians quickly regained control and took the opening game 21-13.

They will now face the Japanese pair of Kakeru Kumagai and Hiroki Nishi in the second round.

Earlier in the day, top-seeded Indian duo Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were defeated in an hour against Lin Xiao Min and Peng Yu Wei of Chinese Taipei in the Round of 32 of the women’s doubles event.

Jolly and Gopichand suffered defeat in three games against the Taipei duo, who took the match 16-21, 22-20, 21-15.

Despite starting positively and taking the first set, the Taipei duo seized the momentum during a tight set second set, and completed a turnaround victory in the third.
