ISSF World Cup, Munich 2025: Elavenil Valarivan wins bronze medal in 10m air rifle
Elavenil Valarivan got India’s campaign at the ISSF World Cup in Munich up and running in style on Tuesday with a bronze medal in women’s 10m air rifle.
The 25-year-old, who had finished fourth in Munich 2018, went one better to return this time around to bag the very first medal rewarded at the rifle and pistol competition.
Elavenil had finished second in qualification with a high 635.9 and for a major part of the final looked good to return home with the gold. But a 9.8 off her penultimate shot, saw her finish with 231.2.
China’s Wang Zifei and Korea’s Kwon Eunji had the tightest of last series, which saw the former clinch gold by a margin of 0.1 points.
Zifei had earlier topped qualification as well, with an unheard-of 637.9. It became the new Qualification World Record across senior and junior sections.
Earlier in the day, Esha Singh shot 294 in the 25m pistol precision to give herself a good cushion ahead of the rapid stage on Wednesday. TS Divya and Manu Bhaker with 291 and 290 respectively at the midway stage have to push hard to make the final of the event.
