Tejaswin Shankar becomes first Indian to win two decathlon medals in Asian Athletics Championships
Tejaswin Shankar became the first Indian to win two medals in the decathlon at the Asian Athletics Championships, in Gumi, South Korea, on Wednesday.
Tejaswin, who holds the national record in the event, finished with 7,618 points to claim silver at the 2025 edition, adding to his bronze from the 2023 Championships.
Going into the 1500m, the final event of the decathlon, Tejaswin stood third in the standings. He clocked 4:37.99, earning 693 points, which lifted him to the silver medal.
His silver was India’s seventh medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships.
China’s Fei Xiang won gold with 7,634 points, while Japan’s Keisuke Okuda took bronze with 7,602 points.
