Bengal Warriorz appoints Naveen Kumar as new head coach ahead of Pro Kabaddi League season 12
Bengal Warriorz has appointed Naveen Kumar as its new head coach ahead of Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), the franchise announced on Friday.
The player-turned-coach from Haryana boasts an impressive track record in the sport. He has represented India and won gold medals at multiple events, including the 10th South Asian Games (2006), the 15th Asian Games (2006), the 2nd Kabaddi World Cup (2007), and the 2nd Asian Indoor Games (2007).
Known for his winning mindset and fighting spirit, Naveen is expected to bring a positive impact to the Warriorz, who finished 10th out of 12 teams last season under former coach Prashant Surve.
He has previously coached several national and domestic sides, including the Indian Navy and Sports Authority of India teams. His reputation as a strong mentor to young players, combined with deep knowledge of the game, is seen as a valuable addition to the current Warriorz set-up.
Speaking on his appointment, Naveen said: “I am honoured to join Bengal Warriorz as head coach. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a strong and competitive team. I look forward to working closely with the players and bringing out their best performances on the mat. We have ample time before the new season, and we will work together to ensure that the Warriorz become a champion unit.”
The announcement comes just ahead of the Season 12 auction, scheduled for 31 May and 1 June in Mumbai, where the Warriorz will aim to build a stronger squad following a disappointing campaign last year.
