LA 2028 Olympics Adds Six New Swimming Events: Full List & Details


The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will feature six new swimming events, gender-equal participation, and additional mixed-team competitions. Here’s what you need to know:

What new swimming events have been added?

50m backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke for both men and women.

This increases the swimming gold medal count to 41 from 35 in Paris 2024.

They align the Olympic programme with the World Championships.

More athletes get a chance to compete at the highest level.

How is gender parity being achieved?

Female athletes (5,333) will outnumber males (5,167) for the first time.

Additional women’s events in boxing and water polo.
