BWF Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025: India beats Macau 5-0


India clean-swept its opening tie in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships against Macau with a 5-0 dominant win on Wednesday at the Qingdao Conson Sports Centre.

The Indian shuttlers, without the injured two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu, made light work of their opponents.

Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath gave India the lead with a 21-10, 21-9 win over Chong Lok Leong and Chi Weng Ng in mixed doubles.

Lakshya Sen then defeated Fong Pang Pui 21-16, 21-12 in the men’s singles.

In Sindhu’s absence, the responsibility of leading India’s women’s singles department fell on Malvika Bansod, and the 23-year-old rose to the occasion with a 21-15, 21-9 victory over Wai Hao Chan.

In the men’s doubles, the duo of M.R. Arjun and Chirag Shetty secured a 21-15, 21-9 win over Chon Chi Pui and Weng Kok Vong in just 25 minutes.

Ranked ninth in the world, the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayathri Gopichand sealed the tie with a 21-10, 21-5 victory over Chi Weng Ng and Wa Chi Pui.

India next faces South Korea in Group D to decide the table-topper.
